Laying on the teenaged angst

Lauren likes to exercise her 4-year-old stubborness from time to time. More often then not, it is at dinnertime and she refuses to eat whatever I've made. I don't acknowledge this with more than "We don't have dessert when we don't have dinner." And then I told her she was excused and could leave the table.

About 30 seconds later, she yelled from the living room "You never wanted me anyway" with such pathos that I had to hold my breath to keep from laughing out loud.

Am sorry, I know I probably shouldn't laugh, BUT, that is soooooo funny! I can almost picture it...

If I did something like that, back in the day, my mum would have me laid out, on the floor - and looking over me, asking if am alright! This has got my day started good and proper...

I know a woman whose father is a first generation American with very Irish parents. When he would pitch fits of type described here and say "I never asked to be born!" his mother would reply in her thick brogue "and it's a good thing, too, lad, because the answer would've been NO!"

Very funny. Please keep us informed when you have the "think of all the starving children" conversation.
A friend of mine once told her mother, "Then box it up and ship it to them!"
Of course, then she had another dinner table problem. She couldn't sit down for a week.

@Navilyn: Glad to give you a good morning chuckle!

@Lisa: That's really funny. I will have to keep that line (in brogue) in mind.

@Mimi: It's funny how much things both change and stay the same, isn't it?
